The stars are all coming out for the Florida sneak peak at award-winning director Ted V. Mikels’ latest movie. In a surprise development, Mikels’ Astro-Zombies will be joined by real zombies from Spain.
TVM Global Entertainment's newest movie, Astro Zombies M4: Invaders From Cyberspace, is coming to Daytona Beach for its Florida ‘Sneak Peak’ Premiere on Saturday, April 28. The official world premiere will occur in Las Vegas in May. Alpha New Cinema and Oldies.com will release the movie on DVD shortly afterwards.
The Cinematique Theatre has courageously volunteered to be Ground Zero for the big April kick-off event in Daytona Beach. Public screenings will be offered at 8 and 10 PM, with tickets value-priced at $5.
At 6 PM, a private screening will be held for cast and crew, who will gather to watch the movie, and celebrate Director Ted V. Mikels’ 83rd birthday.
“Ted will be unable to join us in person, but he has sent special greetings via DVD,” said associate producer Richard Lester.
“We do have a number of celebrities who will be in attendance, however. Plus a special new short film from our movie partners in Spain.”
AZM 4 second unit director Marc Gras in Barcelona has arranged for Zombie World to also screen at the Florida AZM 4 premiere.
“I have seen it and it is fabulous,” said Lester. “I wish we had come up with its unique concept for one of our Blue Heron films. Zombie World will definitely set the right mood for Ted’s marauding Astro-Zombies.”
Among the expected guests at the private screening are assistant director Gary Lester, who worked with Mikels on principal photography in Las Vegas, and also directed the second unit action scenes filmed in Florida. In addition, Lester created the spectacular visual effects, which have been described as amazing by studio executives.
Other celebrities who will be present include well-known actors John Martino (The Godfather), Charlie Carlson (PBS host and author of Weird Florida), Scott Marlowe (Monster Quest), Owen Sliter (Spookhunters), along with Ed Tucker (Astro-Zombies M3: Cloned).
“Our make-up and prop artist, Barry Anderson, did the FX make-up for George Romero in Day of the Dead. We are thrilled that he will be coming into town for the big event,” said Gary Lester.
“Plus, Scott Blacksher, star of Astro-Zombies M3: Cloned and co-star ofAZM 4. He will be flying in from Las Vegas. It will certainly be a star-studded night at Cinematique.”
Directors of two of Florida’s premiere film festivals have also reserved seats at the private screening on the 28th. They include Stephanie Mason-Teague (Daytona Beach Film Festival) and Ray & Migdalia Etheridge (5 Minutes of Fame Film Festival in Palm Bay).
AZM 4 was shot in various locations around the world. In the movie, the audience will visit Las Vegas, New York City, San Francisco, Oregon, Florida, as well as go abroad to Japan, England, Germany, Australia, and Spain.
“I blew up a lot of things in all of those places,” laughed Gary Lester. “Or rather, the Astro-Zombies did!”
Astro-Zombies M4: Invaders From Cyberspace is a TVM Global Entertainment production in association with Blue Heron International Pictures.

After a year of delays and funding problems due to budget cuts, PBS has
given the green light and will fund two more episodes of Weird Florida. Pangea
Fellow, Charlie Carlson, host and co-producer was in Miami this past week to
seal the deal. VTM Productions will film and edit the show which will be
shot in high definition and distributed nationally by NETA. "To get the most for
the money, we will try to shoot two shows in one," said Charlie. The first show,
titled, Weird Florida: Back On The Road Again", will be filmed in April and May
for broadcast in early Fall. The second will be edited and shelved for a later
airing. The executive producer will be Adrienne Kennedy with Mia Laurenzo
as line producer and Filipe Marrou in charge of filming. "This time we are
focused on South and Central Florida," Charlie explained. "In the first one, we
will include an underwater cemetery, yes, they want me and Miss Scarlet to scuba
dive into Biscayne Bay. Also planned is a visit to an abandoned missile facility
in the Everglades, a woman knife thrower and fire eater, crazy trash cans in
Lake Placid, Hong Kong Willy in Tampa, Ashley's haunted Restaurant, mysterious
ruins in New Smyrna Beach, a miniture circus, and much more craziness. We hope
to film it, if all goes right." In addition to the show, the team is proposing
doing an active blog while on the road, called, "Where Is Miss Scarlet?" Each
day the blog will be updated and fans can exchange comments with Miss Scarlet
and the road crew.
The first
show, viewed by six million people, received top ratings when it aired
nationally and captured several television awards including a nomination for a
regional Emmy. More than 3000 DVD of the show were sold on the PBS website and
various station pledge drives. The upcoming show plans to offer other
memorabilia, such as DVD packages, a CD of Charlie's Top Weird Picks, a map of
weird places, stickers, caps or shirts. You can still purchase DVDs and CDs of
the first show or visit the official website at www.weirdfloridatv.org |

Our friends at Blue Heron Intrernational Pictures, LLC, Gary and Richard Lester, finished up the post production of "ASTRO ZOMBIES M4:
Invaders From Cyberspace," their co-production with TVM Global Entertainment out of Las Vegas this January.
The
full length feature film was produced and directed by legendary Hollywood
movie-maker Ted V. Mikels. Assistant director, Gary
Lester. was responsible for most of the
stunning visual special effects that grace the movie.
Pangea's, Scott Marlowe, was cast as "Wheelchair Willie" a dumpster-diving homeless person who witnesses an Astro-Zombie attack, offering his first comedic role in a feature film. "Scott lends some wonderful comic relief to the sequence." say's producer, Richard Lester, who was present at the filming of the scene in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Pangea's, Charlie Carlson and Robert Reese also make featured appearances in the film as well as our good friend, Paula Carol (who nails a particularly grizzly scene) playing an innocent bystander engrossed in a cell phone call.
This edition of the Astro-Zombies series is truly international, featuring locations in Berlin, London and Tokyo as well as several US cities. "The final product is stunning," Says Marlowe. "This is an incredible Sci-Fi classic and a milestone for Ted."
